📅 May 23 & 24

📍 Faculdade de Psicologia e Ciências da Educação de Universidade do Porto (FPCEUP) – Auditório 1

The Observatory of Sport, Education and Communities (ODEC), integrated in the Centre for Educational Research and Intervention (CIIE) is organising the 2nd International Meeting on Sport, Education and Communities: An appeal for Democracy. It's a seminar that fits into the experience of the 50th anniversary of 25th of April, so one of the central themes will be Democratisation in Sport. It is a seminar that reinforces the four thematic areas of the Observatory of Sport, Education and Communities - Sport, Education, Health and Environment - in a close symbiosis that highlights the socio-educational value of Sport and its transformative potential for communities of belonging, inclusion and social justice. Inclusion, the democratisation of sport, social responsibility and ethics constitute some of the main topics on the agenda.

Call for Papers: Democracy and Inclusion through Sport

Sport and democracy are closely connected. They share fundamental principles such as the promotion of equality, justice and fairness. Sport can be a catalyst for promoting and sustaining democratic principles, fostering inclusion and providing equitable opportunities for participation. In addition, sport also plays a crucial role in the social development of young people, providing a unique context for social interaction and the development of values. However, challenges remain: how can sport reflect equality and justice? how can sport promote participatory parity, especially in relation to gender justice? How can links between sport and democratic principles be strengthened?

Following this pattern, ODEC - Sport, Education and Communities Observatory, invites researchers, students and professionals to contribute with works that explore the fundamental role of sport in promoting democracy and inclusion through sport, to be presented and discussed at the "2nd International Meeting on Sport, Education and Communities: An appeal for democracy".
