About the Project

The OBSERVATORY OF SPORT, EDUCATION & COMMUNITIES (ODEC) is a network of knowledge that brings together contributions from different social and human sciences, and is a space for experimentation and development of ideas and projects linked to sport in society, as well as the systematisation, production and dissemination of scientific knowledge developed in this field.

The ODEC is hosted by the Centre for Educational Research and Intervention (CIIE) of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto (FPCEUP).

Goal & field of action

ODEC aims to produce and disseminate knowledge, intervene and monitor, provide scientific consultancy and develop social innovation projects, with a special focus on the field of sport, in its articulation with education, health, the environment and social intervention and inclusion. In order to fulfil its purpose, ODEC takes into account:

The plurality of contributions from the education and sports sciences and the different social and human sciences in the construction of educational scientificity;
The multiplicity and complexity of educational processes;
The role of sport within the framework of the Portuguese educational reality, in the current context of globalisation and the localisation of socio-educational phenomena;
The role of sport in different social spaces and mobilised by different societal actors and the insertion of sport in the national and international space of scientific production.
